Vocalist & Member of Seasons Ensemble
"I have been blessed over the years to have been supported by some of the best musicians on the planet and Theron Johnson is no exception. I have had the privilege of studying with Ms. Johnson for over 10 years through the musical experiences we have shared: Sounds of Symmetry and Seasons Ensemble, just to name a few. One of the greatest lessons she has shared in her coaching is how to utilize the breath. It is a fascinatingly simple, but complex phenomenon! Everything depends on it; yet, in singing, one could overlook its importance and find oneself unable to execute effective phrasing, lose tonality, and literally ruin the performance. It is the most valuable tool a singer could have, but it must be mastered and when it is it translates into beautiful music that transcends your hearing—because the breath itself becomes a part of the music! The importance of vocal coaching and vocal preservation is so essential to excellent music-making, yet so few singers take advantage of its benefits. Would an athlete compete without training? Not if he wants to win!! And neither should the singer who wants to excel!" |

When Theron first approached me about voice lessons to help me with recurring hoarseness issues, I was apprehensive that “voice” lessons could do me any good. I was convinced that I would never have the confidence to sing and what could a voice coach do for me, a speaker/preacher. I was WRONG. My lessons with Theron changed my world, my perspective, and ultimately gave me the confidence to stand in front of a microphone and sing. Theron is more than a gifted singer who teaches others to sing. She is a knowledgeable, compassionate, and encouraging professional who has studied the anatomy of our vocal instruments and the proper ways to use and care for them. I was amazed at how she explained to me how my voice worked and why I was hoarse. She actually helped me learn how to breathe correctly—I never knew that breathing was part of my issue. From there she introduced me to exercises and routines that totally eliminated my issues with hoarseness. We worked on scales, and range, and vocal intonation, and hearing—we worked on so many technical issues yet she made them easy and understandable. Theron literally taught me how to sing correctly and with confidence. Her most used phrase “Yes you can.” Before I knew it I was leading our congregation in song without fear. The biggest testament to Theron’s ability was when a member came to me after a service and said, “Pastor, you have really come a long way and I love to hear you sing now.” WOW! I immediately ran to Theron and gave her a hug. Theron enabled me to do what I never thought I could do and I owe her more than my gratitude.

Music Ministry Director

"Theron Johnson is undoubtedly one of the most dynamic, knowledgeable, and effective vocal instructors in the Washington area. As a gifted soprano, and a skilled and caring professional, her immense talent lies in her ability to discover the particular technical areas of improvement needed for each individual or choral ensemble, and then to deliver a planned, systematic, and functional series of lessons to achieve needed improvement. Her work with the award-winning Eastern High School Choir of Washington, DC resulted in the choristers performing at an even higher level of skill. Singers learned to focus on the breath, the discipline required to sing correctly, and the physical demands of singing. Johnson’s work was evident as the choir sang with less tension in the open throat, using correct breathing and tone producing techniques taught by Johnson. She made learning about the voice a fun and engaging event. She currently serves the Alfred Street Baptist Church music ministry as a skilled vocal coach and as director of one of the adult choirs, the Voices of Triumph." |

“I can't say enough about Theron Johnson and Imagery music. Everywhere I go older people ask me about a vocal coach and I'm so proud to say that I work with Theron. She has taken my gift to a whole new level and I can't imagine not being under her tutelage. It was my husband who kept bragging about this vocal instructor at Alfred Street Baptist and finally I called her and it has been off the hook since then.”

Singer, Songwriter, Vocal Tech Facilitator, Choir Director
"Theron and I were among the founding members of a vocal group that predated “Seasons”; a group called The Sounds of Symmetry. She quickly emerged as the person to whom all the vocalists would turn for accurate vocal technique. She brought her wealth of information and experience, her unparalleled sense of humor, boundless energy and love for her craft into every musical encounter, and would even volunteer her home and her expertise so the group could rehearse on a weekly basis. It was due in large part to her skill that The Sounds of Symmetry became known for its vocal accuracy, crisp diction and amazing blend. On several occasions Theron has also invited me to be a guest psalmist at the church where she serves on the music staff; Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. She has taught her choir my compositions, and when opportunities arise for me to sing with them, they are always exceptionally prepared, energized and deliver songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the highest order. It is my privilege to know and to have worked with her over the years. My singing is the better for having had her vocal technique in my tool belt."

"Theron Johnson is one of the most efficient and competent vocal instructors that I have ever worked with. Her professionalism is second to none. After a few vocal sessions with Theron, I knew immediately that I needed her knowledge and expertise at my church to work with our vocal teams. Over the last several months, we have seen drastic improvement in our vocal performances. Theron is a must have for any church, professional group or organization."

Music Director, The Heritage Signature Chorale
"Proper vocal technique is most important for the longevity of your vocal instrument. In order to sing in a healthy manner, over a long period of years, vocal technique is critical. Singers want to have their voices operational for a long time. Implementing correct vocal technique allows me to enjoy the music "in the moment", without fear of whether my voice "will be there" when I need it. Also, the beauty and warmth of the (choral) sound is simply overwhelming when the proper technique is incorporated."

Theron has the unique gift and ability to provide her students, choirs and ensembles with the tools necessary to take their ministry and in many cases themselves to the next level. Her passion to produce great vocal music is second to none. I am indeed blessed to have her as a vocal coach and friend."

“Singing is a wonderful expression of what is in the heart. Our singers desired to sing with excellence and do so for the rest of their lives. They received understanding of vocal mechanics and techniques so that the patterns of vocal coordination happened consistently, time and time again. Theron Johnson inspired those with even the most hesitant of personalities to give their best because they saw immediate results. Inspirational teaching grew our choir musically and intellectually. Theron is easy to work with and shares her Christ-like heart and her wisdom. It comes through in the voices of her students. We're proud to have her as a ministry partner." |

John Scott
Certified Personal Trainer
I’m John Scott, a (NPTI) Certified Personal Trainer; I’ve been working with Theron Johnson, for the past 2 ½ years, I would like to talk about her journey in improving her fitness and how valuable it’s been to her life and career. First, I have to say she’s been an excellent client; Not only that but a dear friend. It wasn’t easy in the beginning she would doubt herself in what she could do but she would not give up she keep coming back and no matter how hard, I worked her, she was determined to accomplish he goal in her weight loss journey. As time passed, we worked on each other; when I say each other I would push her fitness capabilities and she would administer the word to me. I can truly say she’s a child of God! We had success in her weight-loss… I must say her strength, endurance, stamina and mental focus has improved to the utmost. I recall a time she leg pressed 460lbs the following week her Husband was in there to see her do it, she would call herself the Wolf. A lot of women don’t believe in lifting heavy weight but she listened to her trainer and we did it, I believed that turned the course of events that gave her the inter-strength to know she can conquer any feat. She now knows the importance of being physically fit and what it can do for you in your everyday living, You must exercise; its free medicine not to take advantage of something free to help the longevity of your life would down right be crazy. She opted to seek professional help and I’m blessed she chosen me to guide her in that journey just like her Vocal Coaching she’s not a woman that gives up on you; she’s compassionate, caring, loyal, trustworthy and most of all a True Child of God. |

Yolanda W. Wilson
Minister of Worship, Music & Arts
Mount Zion Baptist Church, Arlington, Virginia
"Through her ministry, Theron has heightened the sensitivity of vocal presentation for our choir and ensembles. Theron worked with choirs in my previous ministry assignment. While some vocalist were introduced to vocal technique by Theron, other singers were refreshed in proper vocal technique. Theron coached us on such items as proper breathing, vocal and consonant enunciation, the staggered breathing approach, and how to approach singing high notes. Theron's technique added richness to our singing and we prepared and presented our 2006 Christmas production. Most importantly, her ministry is biblically based; also, her ability to motivate singers to employ the presented technique is a God-given talent. Quite frankly, God used Theron to revive our music ministry and as such I have scheduled her to work with our choirs where I am currently blessed to serve. I highly recommend Theron Johnson as a vocal coach." |

Director, Alexandria Black History Museum
"I highly recommend that you treat yourself to the soul-inspiring music of Seasons, a choral group. Seasons and The Heritage Signature Chorale were the two featured performing groups for a 2007 gospel concert benefitting the Alexandria Black History Museum. All those attending the concert continue to rave about the performances of that evening. Theron Johnson is to be commended for assembling a group of velvet-voiced musicians to form the Seasons ensemble. Whenever the group launches into performance, time seems to be suspended. Their broad repertoire of musical styles includes sacred and classical hymns, anthems, spirituals, contemporary jazz, and contemporary gospel. Theron has successfully molded an ensemble that is equally comfortable performing any of the various musical styles on the same program. The energy of every performance is contagious and electrifying. After a performance, the harmonious singular sounding voice of the ensemble leaves you feeling as though you have been provided with not only a "treat for your ears" but "food for your soul." |

Washington, D.C.
On September 4, 2008, the AARP Voices for Change choir had the honor of singing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for AARP's 50th anniversary celebration. Through Mrs. Theron Johnson's leadership and direction, during our weekly one-hour sessions over the summer, she taught us voice techniques and vocal disciplines in preparation to sing the AARP song, "Stand Up For Yourself." Theron's professionalism, expertise, and coaching were impeccable, and we are eternally grateful for her shared talent and guidance. |
