In late 1983, the leadership of the Alfred Street Baptist Church was led by God to meet the needs of its rapidly expanding membership by adding an eight o'clock a.m. service to its regular worship services. As it became apparent that a new choir would be needed a call was issued to the Alfred Street family inviting anyone with a desire to serve God in song to come forth and become part of this inaugural group.
Twenty-eight persons responded to this call to serve. By its continued growth in number, as well as in musicianship, it was apparent that God was blessing the choir and that it was destined to become an integral part of the Music Ministry at Alfred Street.
In recent years, the Voices of Triumph Choir has had the honor and privilege to sing for Greenspring Village Retirement Community, Springfield, Virginia; the Masonic Temple, Alexandria, Virginia; The Voices of Civil Rights Kick-off Ceremony, The National Mall, Washington, DC; The Library of Congress - Coolidge Auditorium, Washington, DC; and The Washington, DC Temple Visitors' Center, Kensington, Maryland.
Under the current direction of Theron Thomas Johnson, the Voices of Triumph choir continues, through song, to spread love, kindness and God's message throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. |
