Theron has been featured in recital in various venues throughout the United States to include The National Convention of Links, Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada, Friday Morning Music Club, Fairfax Library Series, and the Alfred Street Baptist Church Fine Arts Series. She has been guest soloist for The Democratic National Committee and has sung the National Anthem multiple times at Washington Redskins games. 

In addition to Theron’s vocal performing career, she has taught voice at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and Sewell Conservatory of Music, both in Washington, D.C. As part of a program sponsored by the Washington Opera, she worked with high school students leading a vocal technique workshop for the “First Night at the Opera” where Placido Domingo was the artistic director. From 1999 – 2003, Theron was the vocal coach for the world-renowned Eastern High School Choir of Washington, D.C.  In 2004, Theron directed the “Official Tour Choir”, the Voices of Triumph during the Voices of  Civil Rights Bus Tour opening ceremony on the National Mall and closing ceremony at the Library of Congress. Theron formed a choir of volunteers from the Washington, D.C. office of AARP along with her group, Seasons, to sing at the Lincoln Memorial for its 50th anniversary kickoff celebration in 2008.  Since 2006 Theron has instructed soloists,  choral ensembles, ministers, choirs and recording artists through her “Finding Your Voice” workshops. 

During the 2014 Concert Series Theron was the vocal coach for The Heritage Signature Chorale of Washington, D.C. where Maestro Stanley H. Thurston is director. 

Theron teaches her students that the entire body is involved in making sound.  “A Mind, Body and Spirit” concept of instruction…a way to live.  By implementing this concept, the student is able to stretch the mind and strengthen their knowledge of the lyric.  The body is the instrument by which the student produces the sound.  One must exercise and stretch daily for optimum results.  As the student mentally and physically connects in this way, the spirit is revealed.   

Once the Mind, Body and Spirit concept has been nurtured, the student is more than prepared to sing and live a well-balanced life.  Detailing exactly what happens when a singer readies to sing, she says, "Inhaling by bypassing the chest, intercostal  muscles and rib cage, an air deposit is made into the lower back resulting in optimum support for a well-balanced singer. Maintaining good posture allows air to flow and be deposited straight into the lower back. This strengthens the diaphragm and allows one to stay connected in the body."  She also teaches that proper breathing is an essential part of singing correctly. "To use the breath efficiently you must first be aware of it," shares Johnson. "Secondly, you must know how it works, how to use it, and then, why it is imperative that this coordination be studied and learned."  It's this type of knowledge Theron shares with her students and choir members - all to make them sound as good as possible for as long as possible. 

Currently, Theron teaches privately from her studio in Alexandria, VA, directs the Voices of Triumph Choir and is the resident vocal coach for the Alfred Street Baptist Church music ministry in Alexandria, VA, directs the Adult Choir of the Heritage Fellowship Church in Reston, VA, is the resident vocal coach for Saint Cyprian Catholic Church Choir in Washington, D.C. and holds local and out of state “Finding Your Voice” workshops designed to enhance church, civic and community organizations.

May 2017 | Vocal coached (inclusive of language interpretation - Italian) the “Negleatha Johnson Singers” preparing them for a 12 day concert tour of Milan, Italy.

July 17-21, 2017 | Vocal Coach for “Work On A Wheel” summer music camp in Omaha, Nebraska where I facilitated a masters class of up and coming artists on the importance of vocal techniques through the mind, body and spirit concept.
